Caring Craftivism

Led by Carers, For Carers

Cost of Living Action (COLA) x We Care Craftivists

From turning off the heating to skipping meals, managing without that broken appliance to cutting back on little luxuries, almost everyone has a story about how they’re struggling with the cost of living.

It’s not a new situation, we’ve been living like this for years. People barely surviving, let alone living. We can’t keep going on like this: we need action now.

That’s why this winter We Care is teaming up with Cost of Living Action to take a powerful message to parliament.

Cost of Living Action is a coalition made up of We Care and more than 50 other civil society organisations, trade unions and grassroots groups united to end the cost of living crisis.

And we're adding our unique We Care spin to our collative action: Craftivism (craft + activism)

Craftivism is a unique way to bring the voices of those with lived experience to decision makers.

Stitch your thoughts and feelings of the cost of living onto a panel.

Stitched Up – Crafting the Cost of Living Story

Craftivism is a way to challenge injustice in the world through the power of making art and crafts together with others. Craftivism is for everyone, whether or not you consider yourself ‘political’ or have any experience of craft work. Craftivism is expressive, accessible and kind, and the results can be beautiful as well as politically powerful.

Unpaid carers, single parents, renters we’re inviting you to stitch your reality so it’s visible.

Together, we will transform fabric into powerful campaign tools.

Each piece will be unique: giving you an opportunity to represent your personal experience of cost of living in your own way: whether that’s through stitching a heartfelt message or perhaps through an image or object that represents the cost of living to you.

This project is designed to fit around our busy lives. You can participate entirely from your home and at a time that suits you: all you need will be an internet connection and device and be close enough to a post box to return your finished artwork to We Care.

A selection of the finished artwork will be displayed at a special event in Parliament in the Spring: taking our voices directly to the centre of democracy. To register for a kit

When you register for a kit we will email you with details of online workshops, where you can meet other craftivists and get some design inspiration and stitching tips if you would like them.
